Years before we purchased the farm in 2022, there have been honey bees maintained here at the farm in order to assist with the pollination of our various crops. We brought our bees with us when we moved. We continue to utilize the bees for their pollinating efforts as well as the wonderful honey they produce. We do not chemically treat our bees / hives for mites, beetles, or wax moths….the bees do a good job of this on their own. Furthermore, we do not utilize toxic chemicals with regard to our crops. As a result, neither our bees nor their precious honey are exposed to toxic chemicals.
BEES:
Every Spring, many of the existing hives will swarm as a result of their natural instinct to do so. When they swarm, the hive splits in to two hives, which is one way that honey bees replicate themselves without human intervention. Oftentimes, we are able to capture the hive that swarms and place them into a new hive. As a result, we end up with more hives than we need here on our farm. Our bees are inspected and have been found to be in great health (i.e., no foul brood syndrome or other diseases…very few (if any) hive beetles…mites….or wax moths). This is at least partly because this breed of bees still maintains it’s instinctive hygiene practices, which some other specialty breeds have lost. Since these bees have been in this same area for over seven years, they have adapted to the living conditions here and have learned to thrive in this environment.
If you are considering purchasing some honey bees, then our bees may be a good fit for you. You can either provide your own hive equipment, or we can sell a basic hive along with the bees. Please contact us at 870-425-7028 if you are interested in purchasing some honey bees.
HONEY:
We sell honey from our our bees as well as from Storm Honey, which is located in Mountain View, AR. We don’t have enough bees / hives to supply honey for all of our customers…so it’s nice to have a larger apiary (honey bee operation) in our area that provides local, raw honey.
Our honey is local, fresh, raw, pure, and non-toxic. Our bees aren’t transported anywhere, so we don’t have to worry about what they get exposed to. Also, they encounter all of the local pollen and nectar sources, so their honey will have natural antihistamine (anti-allergenic) properties. Check out some of the other health benefits of raw honey.
